Baruntse Peak Expedition

Baruntse Expedition peak lies on the lap of Mount Everest and Makalu with the 7,129 m tall which was first summited by Colin Todd and Geoff Harrow in 1954 via South-East ridge. Many climbers till date have successfully summited Baruntse Peak via same route. South-East climbing route to Baruntse Peak comprise steep and difficult snowy slope of 50 degree elevation with gigantic ice cliff and ridge resulting the risk of avalanches. The best and safest season to launch the expedition is during spring however the peak can be summited in the autumn as well.

The summit route to Baruntse Expedition via southern ridge is the traditional route discovered by Hillary and Ship Ton in 1952. Climbing approach starts from Lukla and goes across Hongu valley, one of the fertile area in the region, marching northward via stunning alpine environment.  Baruntse Base Camp is stacked at an elevation of around 5400m and locates nearby the lake below Amphu Labtsa Pass. The summiting route then follows long ascend to the top.

It is symmetrical snow peak that is crowned by four summits on four ridge. Baruntse Peak climbing features all the major components of 8,000m+ peaks making it the most sought peak in Nepal before attempting 8,000m+ summit. The steep and technical section of snowy path at 50 degree angle and a gigantic ice cliff at 7,000m makes South-East Ridge, a technically challenging climb.

Mount Baruntse expedition offers great climbing experience in a remote area of Nepal without investing considerable amount of time and efforts. There are two climbing route to Baruntse Peak i.e. via Mera La Pass and Hanku glacier with possibility of climbing Mera peak and via Tumlingtar along Makalu region and West Barun Glacier.
