Manasalu Peak Expedition (Climbing) in Nepal
Mount Manaslu Expedition (8162m.) is the 8th highest mountain climbing in the world. The mountain is popularly known as Kutang among the locals. Manaslu means "Mountain of the Spirit" and it comes from the Sanskrit word Manasa, meaning "intellect" or "soul". Situated in the Midwest of Nepal, mount Manaslu is one of the beautiful peaks and least climbed mountain in Nepal.
Mt. Manaslu is a serrated wall of snow and ice hanging in the sky which is the permanent source of water on cultivated lands of western mid hills. The isolated area of this mountain was only noticed in 1952 after capturing the photograph of Manaslu by the British Expedition team. The very first climbing of this peak was in 1956 by Japanese mountaineering team after a few attempts of climbing.
Manaslu is considered as easy mountain climbing peak but it is of high risk to climb. It is the 4th dangerous 8000m. Peaks after Annapurna, Nanga Parbat and K2. If we look behind the history, the death rate of climbers is very high. As of May 2008, there have been 297 ascents of Manaslu and 53 deaths on the mountain during the Mount Manasalu Expedition. Technically the climbing is similar to Mt Cho Oyu Expedition but with a considerably higher objective danger of avalanches, Manaslu is taken as a dangerous mountain to climb. It is a perfect peak to gain invaluable 8000m experience before attempting highly Technical Mountain like Annapurna, high 8000m mountain or Everest. Spring is the best season to scale the mountain and Manaslu Expedition. At this time there is less chance of hazardous from aspects of bad weather, snowfall and avalanches. Manaslu Expedition in autumn season is possible but it is considered as more challenging than in spring season.
Autumn (Sept to Dec) and Spring (March - May) are the best time for Manaslu climbing in Nepal. The climbing ratio is high in autumn in compare to spring for Manaslu expeditions.
