Trip Overview

Gorakshep to Gokyo Helicopter Flight is a high linking flight from Life Dream Adventure for trekkers who want both Everest Base Camp and Gokyo without crossing Cho La (5,420 m) on foot. The hop between 5,164 m and 4,790 m takes about 10–15 minutes over the glacier divide.

Where this helicopter flight operates

The aircraft leaves the Gorakshep flats, climbs west of Lobuche Peak and the Cho La massif, and drops beside the Gokyo lakes on the Ngozumpa Glacier. It is one of the few regularly requested inter-valley helicopter sectors inside Sagarmatha National Park. The service is based in Nepal and is sold as a Life Dream Adventure mountain-flight package for guests already in the Himalaya or joining a trek we operate.

Who should book Gorakshep to Gokyo Helicopter Flight

Three-passes itineraries that skip Cho La, guests with knee issues after Base Camp, and photographers chasing both Kala Patthar and Gokyo Ri. This sector is normally sold as a shared flight only (from USD 500 per person). Private aircraft are seldom based for a 10-minute empty return.

How the flight works

Morning 07:00 window. Baggage is limited to 10 kg because both pads are high. Weather on either side of Cho La can cancel the sector independently of Lukla. Life Dream Adventure will only launch when both landing zones are reported clear. This sector is offered as a shared flight from USD 500 per person. A dedicated private aircraft is not normally based for this short high link. Maximum personal baggage is 10 kg unless your confirmation says otherwise. Flights launch only in visual meteorological conditions during daylight. Life Dream Adventure rebooks or refunds according to the weather clause on your invoice if the mountain is closed.

Best season, permits and safety

The most stable flying months in this corridor are March–May and late September–November. Winter is possible on clear, cold mornings. Monsoon cloud (June–August) causes frequent cancellations. You should already hold or be ready to purchase the Sagarmatha National Park entry relevant to the pickup. Travel insurance must cover helicopter evacuation even though this booking is a planned transfer, not an SOS. For AMS, the flight is a descent tool; it is not a substitute for telling your guide how you feel the night before.

What to prepare the evening before

Keep passport, park permit and a 15 kg (or 10 kg on the Gokyo link) duffel ready. Wear warm layers for the pad. Pay lodge bills before the aircraft is inbound. Life Dream Adventure will send the operator name, tail number when known, and a pickup window by phone or lodge message.

Life Dream Adventure confirms the pickup window the evening before, based on mountain weather. Be at Gorakshep to Gokyo lakeside, crossing the Cho La divide with a packed 10 kg bag. After a weight and safety briefing, fly to Gokyo in about 10-15 minutes. High-altitude sectors may shuttle two or three passengers per lift. On landing, continue with your hotel, Lukla aeroplane or onward vehicle as booked. The package is a same-day flight, not an overnight trek.

Fequenty Asked Questions (FAQs)

How long is the Gorakshep to Gokyo Helicopter Flight?

Air time is typically 10-15 minutes between Gorakshep (5164 m) and Gokyo. Add briefing time and, above about 4,900 m, possible extra shuttle legs. The published package is a one-day transfer, not a multi-day trek.

How much does Gorakshep to Gokyo Helicopter Flight cost with Life Dream Adventure?

This sector is sold as a shared flight from USD 500 per person. A private charter is not usually available because of the short high-altitude positioning cost.

Is this a shared seat or a private charter?

Shared only on this Gorakshep–Gokyo link. If you need a private aircraft we will quote a custom positioning flight, which costs more than a standard Khumbu shuttle.

What is the baggage limit?

Plan on 10 kg per passenger. Extra weight reduces how many people can lift from Gorakshep. Expedition loads from Khare or Ama Dablam Base Camp must be declared when you book.

Where do we take off and land?

Pickup is at Gorakshep to Gokyo lakeside, crossing the Cho La divide. Landing is at Gokyo (4790 m) or the nearest safe pad the pilot selects that morning. You remain in Nepal for the entire sector, inside Sagarmatha National Park until you leave the mountain zone.

What happens if the weather is bad?

Helicopter flights in the Everest and Hinku regions operate only in daylight and clear flying conditions. If the pad or route is closed, Life Dream Adventure reschedules to the next possible slot or discusses a refund per your booking terms. Keep a buffer day before any international departure.

Do I need a permit and insurance?

Yes. Carry Sagarmatha National Park entry (and TIMS if you are on a trek) plus travel insurance that includes helicopter rescue. A planned Life Dream Adventure transfer does not replace rescue insurance.
