Upper Mustang trek also popular as Lo Manthang trek is one of the most mysterious trekking in Nepal. After having breakfast we will drive or fly to Pokhara – The city of Lakes. The flight takes approx half hour but costs more while driving is a cheaper way but takes 6-7 hours. Both medium are equally rich in natural beauties. Travelling by flight provides us some time to explore the beautiful lakes of Pokhara. Flight takes extra charge.

Today we will have early morning short and scenic flight to Jomsom. Jomsom is a place from where our walk begins. This place is very famous for apples and landscapes. From Jomsom we start our trek and pass through the small village before reaching Kagbeni.

After having breakfast we will begin our trek on a trail alongside the Kaligandaki River. We walk on a hill and ascend on a hill to reach Tangbe village. From this beautiful village we continue our walk passing via other village, farmlands, apple gardens, and barley field. Than we walk on a ridge and reach Chele village.

Today we ascend through beautiful forests, passing by the villages and reach Geling. On the way to Geling we will explore many chortens painted with different colors. We will have some uphill and downhill walk before reaching Geling. The trail rewards us with incredible natural beauties.

The trail to Tsarang goes steeply up from Geling via cultivated fields. Passing the different villages of Tamang and Gurung we continue a long climb across the head of the valley to Byi La Pass at an altitude of 3,950m. This is the second highest elevation of the trek after Lo Manthang. The Byi La Pass also offers us the great mountain vistas and beautiful view of surrounding. After descending for a while we will reach Tsarang.

Today is the day for our ultimate destination of the trek – Lo Manthang. After climbing uphill and passing by several beautiful villages we will reach the large chortens. This is a boarder of Tsarang and Lo. After some walk we can clearly see the great Lo village. The only entry to the village is in the north side, so one should circle the wall to reach main gate for entry.

Today we will rest in Lo Manthang which will help us to acclimatize in a high altitude. WE can explore the different monasteries, chortens and Mani walls. Lo is a village having around 150 houses of Lamas. The semi Tibetan culture can be experienced here. There is a Mustang King Palace where king and queens of forbidden kingdom still lives. We will spend our day by having excursion to these beautiful sights.

After having breakfast we will climb up a hill and have a last view of Lo Manthang village. Then we follow the trail mostly descending and few short climbs. After passing via beautiful forests and villages we will reach Ghami village within 7 hours.

After having breakfast in Ghami we will follow a trail full of natural beauties. The dense forests and great landscapes give us company throughout the whole day. After crossing via some villages, cultivated fields and forests and having some ascends and descends we will reach the beautiful village of Samar.

Leaving Samar village in early morning and following the downhill trail to Kagbeni, we pass via different villages with Tamang and Gurung peoples. After crossing via some forests and great landscapes we will reach Kagbeni.

After having breakfast, we will have early morning flight to Pokhara. We will reach there in 25 minutes. Then we will go for sightseeing in Phewa and Begnas Lake. Pokhara is a beautiful city nestled in the lap of giant Annapurna and Machhapuchhre mountains.

After having breakfast we will drive back to Kathmandu. Enjoying the great landscapes and following the beautiful Trisuli River we will reach Kathmandu. And our tour ends. You can also take a flight to Kathmandu which is more costly and you have to pay extra for flight tickets.

Upper Mustang can be trekked in all the season throughout the year. But in Monsoon and winter the sky seems to be not clear lacking the views of high mountains and the heavy rains disturb the trek. During winter temperatures are very low and days are short which makes trek tough.
Oct- May is the best time for this trek. During these months the sky is clear and moderate temperature makes the trek best experience. The views of majestic Mountains are extraordinary.
That’s not to say, it will be easy each day – you can be exhausted and your legs might get hurt. But if you take slow pace and take some day with acclimatization, drink enough water and listen to your body, you can make it with no major issues.
Engaging you in cardiovascular exercise, leg training, aerobic exercise and short hiking few weeks prior the trek would be the wise decision. It boosts up your strength and stamina.
Note: Because of some steep uphill and downhill trail route, rocky paths and rock steps, Upper Mustang trekking would not be appropriate for anyone with knee problems or weak ankles. Anyone with the problem of heart or lungs must consult the doctor prior the trek. Be noted that the medical facilities are very basic on the trail.
You will not find any ATMs on the way to trek. ATMs are available in big cities like Kathmandu.

There are not much guest houses and lodges. But because of less visits in this site the lodges are enough. Sometimes we may have to Camp overnight.
You will have enough options of staying in local lodges to tourist standard hotels in some places during the trek. You will have food and accommodation in tea houses.
You can order from the available menu where you are going to stay. Mostly Nepali food is available in the route. You can buy biscuits, noodles etc in the local Shops on the way too.
No, we have porters who carry your heavy gear but you have to carry light day-pack containing water bottle, camera, sunglasses, extra layer of clothing, rain coat or wind breaker and snacks.

Yes you must have travel insurance which can cover the helicopter rescue and medical fee coverage in case of any kinds of emergency. Sometime altitude sickness makes you in difficult situation and need to airlift to Kathmandu. So the insurance need to cover these expenses.
Mid September to November (autumn season) is considered as the best time to go trekking in Nepal. March to May is second best season for Nepal Trekking. Dec- January offers you the best views of Himalayas in clear sky but temperatures are very low in these months and there is a risk of high passes being closed due to snow.
May – June is pre monsoon season in Nepal. In these months, days are hotter but still considered as good time to trek.
June – Mid September is monsoon season. This season is considered least famous for trekking. In this season there is a risk of leeches and heavy rainfall which may make your trek quite miserable experience.
While trekking to Upper Mustang you should be very careful regarding your documents. The basic documents required for the trek are; The tourism Visa sanctioned by Government of Nepal, Passport, the photocopy of introductory page of the passport should always be carried. All the receipts should be kept handy.
You have to trek with a registered guide in this region. The permit fee to Mustang is minimum $500 per person for 10 days. This is defined as 10 days, not nights, starting and ending in Kagbeni. US $ 50 is added for each extra day. You have to return within the permitted day in Kagbeni from restricted Area.
You have to pay NRs. 2000 for ACAP permit for flight to Jomsom. US$ 50 per day permit is required only north of Kagbeni.
You have all your equipments and permits checked in Kagbeni post while entering and also have to show your rubbishes while exiting to prove that you have carried it out for disposal in Jomsom.
Trekking Gears depends upon the season, when you travel. Some of the basic gears are light weight hiking boots, waterproof boots, hiking socks, sandals, waterproof jackets, sunglasses, gloves, sleeping bag, headlamp, trekking poles etc.
For a comfortable trekking, you need to make your personal checklist in good form. Please remember that you should always try to keep the weight of your clothing equipment down to a minimum. Your packed trek bag, should weigh no more than 15 kilograms (33 pounds.) Use your own experience and judgment to make your packing list. Clothes should be warm enough and walking comfortable, trekking boots are wise selection for footwear. Personal hygiene goods and clothes are compulsory, camera, charger, hat, trekking poles are add-ons for your journey.
We offer you best accommodation in Kathmandu and Pokhara which ranges from tourist standard to star category hotels. It depends on your choice which is based on your budget and interest. During the trekking, we use best tea-houses/lodge available in the area. All accommodations are on twin-shared basis. Single supplement will be served on request and will cost an additional cost. We will arrange rooms with attached bathrooms; however, teahouses in some places only have shared bathroom and toilet facilities. Single rooms are available in developed area such as Kathmandu city and lower part of the trekking route.
We only offer breakfast in Kathmandu and Pokhara you choose your own meal while in Kathmandu and Pokhara. During the trek, you will be served by authentic Nepalese food as well the more common international cuisine (Tibetan, Continental, Italian, Indian, etc.). Breakfast and dinner will be served from the teahouse or from a lodge menu where we spend the night whereas lunch will be served on the way to the next destination. All meals (BLD) will be provided during trekking.

For the best trekking experience you should go uphill slowly. To prevent yourself from dehydration you should drink 4-5 liters of water every day. Our guide will help you lead through the most used trekking route which helps you with the climb in high steep grounds as well.
You should bring First Aid Kit with you or you can also hire a trekking guide or porter to carry a medical kit with necessary medicines in case of emergency. In the high altitudes, you may feel altitude sickness or most common health problem is Intestinal Complication. So, you must consult your doctor before this trek so that you could complete this trek easily and happily.

Trekking to Mustang needs physically fit and passion of walking. Trekkers who have the ability to walk at least 6-7 hours a day with a light rucksack can do this trek easily. Trekking in the high altitude is difficult and may cause the altitude sickness. So, personal fitness is necessary to do this trek. Mentally and physically you need to ready to walk about 7 to 8 hours a day. Exercising and jogging regularly is good idea to enhance our strength and stability. Past hiking experience would be an asset but no technical skill is required for this trip. Participants with pre-existing medical conditions such as heart, lung, and blood diseases are good. We also recommend that you consult your doctor(s) before the trip.
It is compulsory to have travel insurance before you start your trek. Ask yourself one question “Will my Travel Insurance cover me? “In case of any emergency which includes Helicopter/Air Ambulance rescue charges if necessary on medical grounds. One point to note is that when you arrive in Nepal, register your insurance with our company, and give a copy of the Insurance Certificate and point out the Emergency Telephone numbers. Then, if you get into trouble, your guides will know exactly who to contact for authorization for an evacuation.
