Lobuche Peak Climbing is one of the popular and challenging trekking peaks in the Everest region. Lobuche Peak is the second most popular trekking peak climbing after the Island Peak (Imjatse) in Khumbu region. Lobuche East is the main of Lobuche Peak consists of several small summits and the true summit requires climbing steep snow and ice slopes to the top of the summit ridge.
The Lobuche peak offers various routes for climbing the summit. The normal route to Lobuche peak climb is through South Ridge.
The route of Lobuche Peak Climbing passes through several beautiful villages inhabited by Sherpa peoples offering us the best opportunity to learn about the unique Sherpa culture, lifestyles and their spiritual connection with high Himalayas.
Lobuche Peak Climbing rewards us with the fantastic mountain views and other eye-catching natural beauties. The rivers, streams, waterfalls, green forests and the chances of encountering wild animals on the trail makes our trip more exciting.
We follow Everest Base Camp Trekking route up to Pherinche and then trek to Dughla.
Lobuche Peak base camp will be set up at 4,950m near a lake in a rocky hollow at the base of the glaciated South-West face. The views of high mountains like Ama Dablam, Cholaste, Thamserku, Kantega peak and Tawache peak are excellent from here. We climb steep stone terraces and snow slopes just below the main glaciers on the South-West Face of Lobuche East Peak.
We climb steep snow and ice slopes using fixed ropes and get access to the ridge overlooking Lobuche and the Khumbu Glacier where we fix the high camp.
We follow the sharp snow ridge to the summit ridge. Then we follow the route to north-west towards the main summit passing several small snow bumps and reach a notch. Then we further climb steep and quite difficult snow slopes to the true summit. The Lobuche peak can be climbed from East Face by climbing a dark pyramid of shabby rock and join the South Ridge to get to the summit.
The best time for Lobuche Peak climb is during the pre-monsoon (spring) season from March to May or post-monsoon (autumn) season from September to November. These months offer stable weather conditions, clear skies, and moderate temperatures, making it ideal for mountaineers to summit Lobuche Peak.
During spring, the rhododendron forests are in full bloom, adding beauty to the landscape, while autumn provides crisp, clear views of the surrounding Himalayan peaks. The trails are also less crowded compared to the peak trekking season, allowing for a more peaceful climb.
However, it's essential to avoid the monsoon season (June to August) due to heavy rainfall, which can trigger landslides and avalanches, making the climb dangerous. Similarly, the winter months (December to February) bring extremely cold temperatures and heavy snowfall, making it challenging for climbers. Hence, plan your Lobuche Peak climb during the recommended spring and autumn months for a safe and enjoyable experience.
Lobuche East, standing at 6,119 meters (20,075 feet) in the Khumbu region of Nepal, presents a challenging yet accessible climbing opportunity for experienced trekkers and climbers. The difficulty lies in its technical aspects, including steep sections and crevassed glaciers, demanding solid ice and snow skills. The ascent also demands proper acclimatization to combat altitude sickness.
Navigating the Khumbu Icefall, a treacherous glacier section, adds complexity. Nevertheless, a qualified guide can facilitate safety. The climb culminates with a steep ridge, demanding the use of ropes and crampons. Despite these challenges, Lobuche East is an attainable goal for those with prior high-altitude trekking and climbing experience, offering stunning panoramic views of Everest, Lhotse, and the Khumbu Valley as a rewarding payoff.
The cost of climbing Lobuche Peak can vary depending on the number of people in your group. For solo climbers, the cost per person is $2,750 USD. However, if you're traveling with a group of two or more people, the cost per person decreases to $2,300 USD.
This pricing structure often includes essential services such as permits, guides, equipment, accommodation, meals, and transportation during the expedition. Keep in mind that additional expenses, such as international flights, personal gear, and travel insurance, are typically not included in these costs. Full board and budget climbing package offers different cost.
Here's a table summarizing the Lobuche Peak climbing cost:
No of People | Cost per Person (USD) |
---|---|
1 pax | $2,750 |
Above 2 | $2,300 |
The Lobuche East Peak Climbing Permit costs USD 250 during spring, USD 125 during autumn, and USD 70 during winter/summer and should be obtained from the Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA).
We arrange the climbing permit for you if your plan your climbing trip with us.
Lobuche East and Island Peak are two popular trekking peaks in Nepal, both offering thrilling climbing experiences. Lobuche East stands at 6,119 meters (20,075 feet), while Island Peak is slightly higher at 6,189 meters (20,305 feet).
Lobuche East generally demands more technical ice and snow climbing skills, with challenging sections like the Khumbu Icefall. Island Peak is often considered more accessible for novice climbers, featuring less technical terrain.
However, Lobuche East offers stunning views of Everest, Lhotse, and the Khumbu Valley. Island Peak, on the other hand, provides a unique cultural experience, passing through Sherpa villages. Your choice depends on your climbing experience, technical skills, and whether you prioritize cultural immersion or panoramic vistas.
